A humane workplace is a place where humans are the priority.
Mounds of articles, blogs, and books have been written on this topic and a lot of progress has been made when it comes to (re)humanizing the workplace. Yet, for many people, work life is unfulfilling, life draining – maybe even inhumane. In fact, a recent Gallup poll indicates that most people (52%) are “not engaged” in their work and some (13%) are “actively disengaged” (i.e. miserable) at work. So, we still have a long way to go in the effort to make most workplaces engaging and fulfilling – where human relationships, and human satisfaction in the production of goods and services, is nurtured.
As a framework for leadership, management, and consulting psychoanalysis offers concepts that help us understand, and and make sense of, the interpersonal world of work so that we can respond to others in humane ways. We are dedicated to translating these useful concepts to practice as one way to promote humane workplaces.
